Important Church Worship

Why do people see Sunday Morning Service as being more important than Sunday Evening or Wednesday Service?

  1. I don't know why it originally was seen that way, but most likely we believe it b/c it has been taught by the previous generations' example (tradition).

I would guess they probably first felt this way b/c they only had church one Sunday a month, and it was considered of extreme importance. Then they began having service more often, and then when they made it once a week, the first, or last Sunday a month (whenever they met) was considered the "most important" worship time, and the others were probably seen as less important by the immature members.

Then, when it became two services on Sunday, the first was probably seen as most important by immature members, and the same with Wednesday. Just an uneducated guess though.

  2. Perhaps meeting on Wednesday was considered heresy when it first began as it broke tradition. For example, what if we wanted to cancel services Wednesday and have them Tuesday and Thursday? While most wouldn't condemn it, many wouldn't like it.

  3. The same question could be asked about Sunday School. Why do so many skip Sunday School and come to Sunday morning worship service?

  4. God is as much a part of Wednesday service as He is on Sunday Morning. It saddens me and I know it saddens God that some people only want to meet with Him once a week.

  5. Our Evangelist one year was preaching about faithfulness to Church and he made this point:
On Sunday morning you discover how popular the Church is. On Sunday night you find out how popular the preacher is. On Wednesday night you learn how popular the Lord is.

People can make all kinds of excuses they want but theu cannot get around Hebrews 10:25, forsake not the assembling of yourselves together. The Church voted and set the assembling times so if you are a member of a 3 times a week service, what does it mean if we break/ignore the clear commands of Scripture?

This includes sunday School, btc's, revival and vbs.

  6. For us, we find out Sunday morning how popular the church and preacher is, and Wednesday how popular the youth group is. I suppose our "core" would be Sunday night, not Wednesday, although the core is included in all Sunday morning, evening and Wednesday night services with the others. To tell you the truth, pretty much all our Sunday Nigh crowd comes on Wednesday too to reach out. They have a chance Wednesday go from "being churched" to "churching" the youth.

    Well, have a good day.

  7. I imagine it's the good ole flesh getting hold of us. You know the "Well, at least I was there this morning, and I have to get up early for work, and the kids have school, blah blah blah..."

  8. Just curious, do you dress down on Wednesday compared to Sunday morning? I do. Could we be part of the problem?
